Time’s Up Movement: Workplace Sexual Assault and Resources for Help

In the past couple of months, we have opened our social media accounts and have witnessed so many women and people coming out of the shadows and speaking up about their sexual assault encounters. We’ve read what these women have gone through and how hard it was for them to speak up, and often, we as a public, sit back and unknowingly start judging the person. You may ask, why wait until now to speak up? Why did they place themselves in that situation in the first place? Could they have fought back? Maybe they’re doing it for the attention? You then read the comments below the articles and see the social media users arguing back and forth about the situation. You read negative comments, then you read positive comments and you think to yourself, “should I comment below, or do I keep on scrolling past the post?”

I believe we should share resources through our social media accounts and help the Time’s Up movement. What is Time’s Up you may ask? Time’s Up is an organization that has been funded by a legal defense to help less privileged women and to provide support to those who have experienced sexual harassment, sexual assault or abuse in the workplace such as janitors, nurses, blue collar workers, farmers, factories, restaurants and hotels in assisting them to protect themselves from sexual misconduct and the fallout from reporting it.

Time’s Up Now

Sexual assault in the workplace has always been around, but was never talked about; it was such a taboo topic until now. We have celebrities speaking up about harassment and how they’ve tried to take legal action but were often shot down by non-disclosure agreements and settlements. A lot of these stories never made it to the news because of these settlement agreements. It’s infuriating to think that middle class women didn’t have the knowledge and the support to report the abuse. If they did, often, they never received their due justice. As a society, I believe we must help others. We must not be intimidated, we must rise up together and fight back against workplace sexual assault and harassment!

If you or someone you know is in need of an attorney to help with your workplace sexual assault case, we recommend contacting Isaac Hernandez, Esq.; a great labor and employment law attorney that serves the community here in Arizona.
